Where We're Located

On our residential campus in Bolivar, Mo. (population 10,300), students enjoy a tight-knit community both on- and off-campus. The Bolivar community welcomes SBU students to the peaceful and secure community at the edge of the Missouri Ozarks.

For additional shopping, dining and cultural experiences, Missouri’s third-largest city, Springfield, is just a 30-minute drive from Bolivar. Branson is a little more than an hour away.

Shop and Dine Locally

Bolivar is home to quaint boutiques and locally owned businesses, as well as national retail stores. From fast-food chains to local diners, you are sure to find a meal that fits your palate. Choose from Chinese, Mediterranean, Mexican, barbeque, traditional American fare and more. Specialty fare includes bulk candy, coffee, tea, ice cream, frozen custard, nutrition shakes, snow-cones and more.

Off-Campus Happenings

With dozens of area churches, you are sure to find one where you can be involved in ministry. Many churches offer events and small groups specifically for college students. Community groups coordinate events such as the Country Days Festival, Christmas parade, Light the Park Christmas lights display, Christmas open house event, Celebration of Freedom fireworks on Independence Day and more.

Explore Nature

Bolivar has multiple parks where you can enjoy nature through walking trails, disc golf, hammocking and more. Pomme de Terre and Stockton Lakes are within 30 miles of Bolivar and include hiking trails, beaches, fishing, camping and boating. Other nearby parks include Bennet Spring State Park and Ha Ha Tonka State Park.
