Learn about the SBU Research Review Board

The Southwest Baptist University Research Review Board (RRB) is committed to the protection of all participants involved in research conducted by SBU faculty or students. All research involving human subjects is closely screened by the RRB to ensure ethical principles are followed and that the participants’ rights to privacy, health and general well-being are protected. RRB review is done according to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services Code of Federal Regulations (45 CFR, part 46) and as stated in the SBU Faculty Academic Guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

SBU RRB approval is necessary when research involves human subjects in any of the following situations:

  • Research conducted or directed by using SBU property or facilities
  • Research conducted or directed by SBU employee in connection with his/her institutional responsibilities
  • Research uses university's non-public information to identify or contact research participants
  • Research on SBU students, faculty or staff

Have your RRB application (see resources section below) reviewed and signed by the faculty sponsor, department chair and college dean and then send to the RRB chair AND complete an approved ethics course within the last three years per Federal Guidelines. See 45 CFR 46. Title 45 Code of the Federal Regulations, part 46.

Usually about two - four weeks.
Undergrad students need to complete both BEH 2233 AND BEH 4033 and submit the certificates from both courses OR complete the approved Ethics course: University of Montana Ethics Course and complete and submit certificates from ALL of these sections:  1, 2, 4, and 6. Screenshots of the completion certificates for each of these are considered acceptable.
